At the end of 2022, I heard a lot of “minimalist is dead” voices on YouTube. There are many reasons. One thing I agree with is that your own minimalist life may be different from what others show you, and the gap between expectations and reality is too big. And living a minimalist life is not an easy thing, and those who persevere will naturally realize the pros and cons. Taking advantage of the free time during the New Year, I will also summarize some of my efforts in digital simplicity in 2022 and some plans for 2023.
Personal blog
Although no one writes blogs anymore. But I still want to hold on. After all, writing is very important for expression. In the past, blogs were built on VPS. Since the usage rate of the purchased VPS was relatively low, it would not be renewed after expiration. The current blog is deployed using Cloudflare Pages and Github. The 500 builds per month for the Free version are enough. By the way, domain name hosting is also placed on Cloudflare.
In this way, you only need to write the Markdown file locally and then push it to github. The rest is handled fully automatically. If you don’t need to run tests locally, you don’t even need to install the generated program. I am currently using Hugo to generate static blogs, which is quite troublesome to get started and requires certain hands-on skills. It’s very simple once you get started.
By the way, GTW is used on mobile phones, and Typora is used on computers. Typora needs no further introduction, it is very convenient to cooperate with PicGo-Core. I just switched to GTW recently, mainly because it can use Onedrive cloud disk.
Media account
I have canceled many media accounts before, and I don’t have any blogs, books, music or videos. Now I mainly keep Instagram and Youtube, which are neither entertainment nor learning channels for me. Domestic information sources mainly include several high-quality public accounts and podcasts. And TV, yes, TV. (Passive) Foreign information sources include some News Bots on Twitter and Telegram.
